WNY Delta Waterfowl has a great opportunity to help, with others, to give back to the community.

We came upon a large male river otter that was hit on the road by a vehicle out by the Alabama Swamps. Since there is no season for them in our part of the state, they are not able to be legally kept. There is very little damage to the animal's pelt, and it is the perfect specimen to have on display for future generations to see.

We have been working hand in hand with the Region 8 NYS Department of Conservation to obtain the proper permitting needed to be able to have a river otter taxidermied and then donated to the ECO Island Nature Center on Grand Island for all the good that they do for school children. They will proudly add the river otter to the rest of their taxidermied species so they can educate children on the species of animals found on and around Grand Island.

This is a great way to make sure generations of kids can get up close and personal to wildlife they may encounter while out being children.
